Eye Exams - Why Do I need it if I see well and I feel fine?
Having your regular routine eye exam is important not only to ensure that your vision is sharp. It is also to ensure that your eyes are healthy. After all, you need to maintain the health of your eyes for your entire lifetime. Similar to any regular medical or dental checkup, regular eye exams are important because the Optometrist will ensure that there are no new health issues with your eyes, as well as checking for the status of any existing eye health issues that you may have. OHIP covers an eye exam once per year for persons under the age of 20 and for persons 65 years and over, if you are healthy, your coverage is every 18 months. For persons from age 20 and up, OHIP covers eye exams once a year for those who have been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, cataract, retinal disease, amblyopia, visual field defects, corneal disease, strabismus, recurrent uveitis or optic pathway disease.
